New book in the works!

I recently published, "Someone to Watch Over Me" - a brief column. It was quickly picked up by a national and international audience. My agent, Bob Mecoy, has helped me to make this into my first non-fiction novel.

It is the story of my dog, Gracie, and her newly-found purpose which she discovered as of the first day of my spinal cord injury.

Gracie

Gracie's story will be close to anyone's heart, dog-lover or not. She is my caregiver, protector and my best friend.

____________________
I know how fortunate I am to live on Cape Cod. I have two dogs, four cats, one pet duck and a whole mess of fish that cannot control themselves from - shall we say, reproducing. Oh - and there's my husband Bob. He can't control himself either.

In 1996, I retired my 22 year psychotherapy practice to follow my dream of becoming a writer. I hope that if you have a dream, you won't wait for "someday" to go for it.

If you've always wanted to write a novel, try sitting down today and writing one sentence. When you go to bed tonight, don't say, "I only wrote one lousy sentence of a novel." Instead say, "I started my novel today!"

Now, let's get to some credentials.

And remember, if I can do all this, starting with no writing credentials whatsoever, you can too.

In 2005 and again in 2008, my columns won a National Society of Newspaper Columnists award. www.columnists.com. The NSNC is the largest organization for columnists in the United States. Dave Barry insists that he wins every year, but he uses a pseudonym.

In December of 2007, I received first place for "Personal Essay" in the
North American Mature Publishers Association's annual contest.

And yet another, believe it or not. My columns just received an award in the 2008
New England Associated Press News Executives Association contest.

I am honored to be an essayist for The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.

In 2004, my novel Raw Nerves-A Cape Cod Comedic Thriller, was published. Within 6 months, it was selected by the American Booksellers Association for BookSense. You won't believe these odds. (But I'll tell you something I've learned. If you don't try, the odds are zero.) Out of 10,000 novels submitted monthly, only 30 are selected.

You can see Amazon.com reviews by clicking here. They're all great except for one from a local gal who hates me and found the perfect means of revenge. (FYI: You can't delete someone's Amazon review. Trust me.)
                         __________

I am very pleased that Bob Mecoy, a superb and well-known agent in NYC, is representing me for my sequel. If you're a publisher and you'd like to contact him to take a look, I'd be thrilled to connect you with him.

                        ___________

Just a little further  . . .

I'm a multiple contributor to Chicken Soup for the Soul, Family Circle Magazine, the Dallas News and published nationally and internationally in way too many publications to cite (which is another way of saying you'd fall face down on your keyboard from boredom).

I've penned a regular column in New England's award-winning Cape Cod Times Newspaper and have been nationally syndicated for 10 years with Senior Wire News Service.

So . . . not too bad in such a short time, don't you think? I believe it's worth repeating that if I can do it, having no writing credentials, much less any experience, you can too.
